Chachapoyas 5 Days 4 Nights

PYT 007

The Pre-Inka Chachapoya society thrived from 900 to 1400 AD, with their stronghold in the mountaintop citadel of Kuelap. Nestled above the Utcubamba River Valley, where the Andean slopes meet the rainforest, they were known as the "Warriors of the Clouds." Ethnically distinct, they stood tall and had a pale complexion, setting them apart from ancient Peru's other peoples.

The fierce Chachapoya eluded Inka conquest until approximately 1470 AD. Later, when the Spanish arrived in 1570, they found allies in the Chachapoya, who helped them battle their former foes. Kuelap was soon abandoned and remained so for centuries. In 1843, local Chachapoyas rediscovered it, but it wasn't until the 1980s that archaeologists began exploring the entire site.
